Portents and Parallels April Lecture by David Luebke
April 18 @ 6:15 pm - 7:00 pm
Lecture title: “Sharing Sacred Spaces: Religious Coexistence in Sixteenth- and Seventeenth-Century Europe”
Lecturer: David Luebke, Professor of History
University of Oregon
By the seventeenth century, one or another kind of Christianity had emerged as dominant in most territories of Europe. One exception to this rule was northwestern Germany, a region in which no single form of Christianity dominated. There, a largely peaceable order took shape and survived into the mid-17th century. This talk, based on Professor Luebke’s book, explores how Catholics and Protestants managed to share religious parishes for so long without religious violence and to hold together their communities in the face of religious pluralization.
The lectures are free, with a suggested donation of $5.00 to cover the use of the space.
